“Repent and believe in the Gospel”

Ash Wednesday, the day that marks the beginning of Lent is just around the corner.  Kicking off 40 days of fasting, prayer and penance, it is a time to take stock of our lives, reflect on our priorities and deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

The title of this reflection is one of the prayers that can be said as you receive ashes on your forehead.  The other one you may hear is “Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return”.  This second one reminds us of our beginning and our earthly mortality.  It calls us to ponder how we came into existence, how it was not our own doing but from something, someone much greater.  Then it goes on to inform us that this life on earth will come to an end. So, knowing you came from nothing and at a given time you will depart from this place, what is one to do? What does it mean?

Well, that is simple, it takes us right back to the beginning of this reflection “Repent and believe in the Gospel”.  It almost seems like this prayer should be turned around, “Believe in the Gospel and Repent”.  Surely if someone believes in the Gospel, I mean truly believes the words of Christ, the ‘Good News’, the hope given, the promise made, the love shown on that hill called Calvary then one would want to do nothing more than prepare (REPENT) throughout their earthly life for that time when they will depart.

Isn’t it wonderful that through Cursillo we have the opportunity to bring this Good News to others, so that they may come to know and share in the Grace of God that He so graciously offers.  Now is the time to invite a man to come and experience God in a much deeper way, to give them the opportunity to “believe in the Gospel” and to repent.

The team is currently preparing to serve our God in voice and action for Cursillo 1237 coming in early March.  Please join us in prayer and Palanca to strengthen and encourage these team members.

DeColores,

Deacon Gary
